FranchetAI uses AI to absorb traffic pollution

Ai4Cities has brought together the international team of Ubiwhere (Portugal), Aavista (Finland) and 8Bells (Cyprus) developing the FranchetAI solution. Inspired by the Cotoneaster franchetii, a super-plant acknowledged for filtering 20% more automobile air pollutants emissions, the solution proposes monitoring and estimating the GHG emissions produced by transportation solutions within smart cities across Europe. At the same time, it aims to raise awareness among citizens, and help them reduce their emissions through daily emission digest reports, customised route recommendations based on data prediction and incentives from community challenges to reduce their emissions.

The solution consists of a web platform and a mobile app. The web platform gathers data about EV chargers, shared mobility locations, nature-based solutions in place, traffic conditions, road topology, weather and other relevant variables. This data is then used to train time-series forecasting models which will predict the availability of EV chargers and shared mobility options to optimise its usage, and identify the ideal locations for nature-based solutions to filter automobile air pollutants. The mobile app makes use of AI technology to provide route recommendations and "carbon digest" reports (daily, weekly, monthly) about the amount of GHG emissions saved, through gamification and incentives from community challenges sponsored by cities and local organisations. FranchetAI aims to make its AI user-friendly and transparent. Users will have fuill control of data management processes.
